  • Siemens to build combined cycle power plant in the Netherlands
    Siemens Energy has received an order from the Netherlands for turnkey construction of a combined cycle power plant. Purchaser of the 435-megawatt (MW) plant Diemen 34 in the vicinity of Amsterdam is the Dutch utility Nuon, a subsidiary of Vattenfall A.B. Siemens will also handle plant maintenance. With an efficiency level as high as approximately 59 percent, maximized operating flexibility and low nitrogen oxide emissions the gas-fired plant will supply more than 750,000 Dutch households with ecofriendly power. The Diemen 34 power plant will also be capable of supplying as many as 25,000 households in the immediate vicinity with district heat by means of steam extraction. That is equivalent to a thermal capacity of approximately 260 MW.

    Siemens and its employees have already collected over €1 million in donations for the victims of the flood catastrophe in Pakistan. In order to help the approximately 20 million people affected by the disaster, Siemens will match every euro that its employees donate by September 30, 2010 to a special account established at the Bank für Sozialwirtschaft in Germany.

  • Siemens receives 290 million dollar order from Gerdau Açominas - Brazilian steel producer invests in new plate and Steckel mills
    Gerdau Açominas, a company in the Gerdau Group, has ordered a plate mill and a Steckel mill from Siemens VAI Metals Technologies. The two rolling mills will be constructed at Ouro Branco in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. A second strand will also be added to their existing Siemens VAI continuous slab caster that initiated its production one year ago.
