Order from Altos Hornos de Mexico: Siemens updates LD converter in the Monclova works based on the latest technological advances
Siemens VAI Metals Technologies received an order from the Mexican steel producer Altos Hornos de Mexico, S.A.B. de C.V. (AHMSA) to modernize the LD (BOF) converter in the Monclova steel works. The contract includes the engineering and delivery of key components and will be completed in the spring of 2013.

Siemens opens a new factory for network automation components in India
Toward the end of January 2012, Siemens Infrastructure & Cities opened a new manufacturing plant at its location in the State of Goa, India, to produce network automation components. In the first stage of expansion, Siemens has invested around EUR20 million. The current workforce is roughly 90, but the number of employees is scheduled to rise to about 500 in the long-term.

Shmuel Fledel appointed CEO of Siemens' Solar Thermal Energy Business Unit
Effective February 1, 2012, Shmuel Fledel (58) will become CEO of the Solar Thermal Energy Business Unit in the Solar & Hydro Division of Siemens Energy. Fledel is an aeronautical engineer and has vast experience in production process improvement. He has profound knowledge of engineering, finance and marketing, which he gained in various high-level management positions during his career.

Siemens opens two new plants for power supply components in India - Investment totals about €28 million
Siemens’ Infrastructure & Cities Sector has opened two new production facilities at its location in the Indian state of Goa. The company has invested around €28 million in the facilities, which manufacture products for the establishment and expansion of power distribution networks for utilities, industry, infrastructure projects and municipalities. Both plants boast their own research and development departments.

Siemens to modernize two bar mills for Diaco in Colombia
Siemens VAI Metals Technologies has received an order from Diaco, the Colombian branch of the Brazilian Gerdau Company, to bring two bar mills at its Tuta and Tocancipá locations up to the state of the art. The modernized rolling mills are scheduled to come into operation at the end of 2012, and will be designed to produce rebars in different diameters.

Siemens HCPV module partner Semprius achieves world record for photovoltaic module efficiency
The solar company Semprius, in which Siemens has invested as a strategic partner in June 2011, achieved a world record for photovoltaic module efficiency of 33.9 percent. This result was externally certified after measurement under standard test conditions at the Instituto de Energía Solar (IES) at the University of Madrid (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid).
